  • To access this trail, head South on Highway 40 (Kananaskis Trail) and follow the signs for Kananaskis Village. When turning off hwy 40, take your first left and then an immediate right for the Ribbon Creek Day Use Area.
  • This trail is very popular for its easy access and the variety of hiking options it offers. The scenery along the way is extraordinary.
  • If you manage to surpass the obstacle offered by the strectch of trail between Ribbon Falls and Ribbon Lake, you can loop Ribbon Creek Trail with other routes (through Guinn's Pass) or choose to hike all the way to Spray Lakes Road (through Buller Pass).
  • Trailhead to Ribbon Falls (11 Km): the trail follows the creek with Mount Kidd to the South and Ribbon Peak and Mount Bogart to the North. The trail crosses the creek several times with a slight and gradual grade. Shortly after passing a log pile ont the right you will see a rougher trail heading North (right), this trail heads up Ribbon Creek towards the Memorial Lakes. *After this junction, you will cross the creek yet again and eventually come upon signs that discourage bikers and cross-country skiers beyond this point (the trail is just too narrow). The trail hits the Ribbon Falls Campground at the 11 Km mark.
  • Ribbon Falls to Ribbon Lake (12.8Km): Known as "The Obstacle", the trail takes a turn for the vertical and you will begin climbing steeply (gaining 160 m over the next 0.8 Km). You will then come to a rocky cliff. You can keep going but will have to climb 5 m up the cliff face (there are chains to assist you - it never hurts to have rope for extra security). This is quite difficult and will discourage most novice hikers. If you succeed you will be able to continue your trek to Ribbon Lake.
  • At Ribbon Lake you can:1) turn back the way you came; 2) climb over the summit of Guinn's Pass and loop back to Kananaskis Village; or 3) climb over Buller Pass and head to Spray Lakes Road.
  • You might want to arrange for pick up if you choose option 3 above (it makes a total hike of approximately 22 Km one way).

  • Terrace Trail will meet with Galatea Trail at its southern end.
  • A 25 Km loop can be made with the Evan-Thomas Bicycle Path via Kananaskis Trail.
  • For the more adventurous hiker (no bikes or c-c skis allowed) you can loop back to Kananaskis Village via Galatea Creek Trail and Ribbon Creek Trail (this is a difficult, but rewarding 21 Km).
