Canmore - The Pearl of the Canadian Rockies
Nestled between Banff National Park (one
of the most visited places in Canada) and Kananaskis Provincial
Park, Canmore is a world renowned four season destination... a super
place! The surrounding wilderness offers breathtaking views. They
made perfect backdrops for Hollywood blockbusters such as Dances
with Wolves, Legends of the Fall and Brokeback Mountain.
This small alpine village was the staging point
of the nordic events for the 1988 winter olympics. Since then, tourism
in the area has skyrocketed. Each year, Canmore and the Bow Valley
area attract millions of visitors from all over the world.
If you live there, you truly are lucky. This means
you are free to experience the relaxed, small town ambiance anytime
you want. You are envied by so many young and young at heart.
For the rest of us, it makes for a fantastic place
to visit. Whether there's snow on the ground, leaves of yellows,
browns and reds falling to the ground or flowers of all sorts blooming
in all directions, Canmore is a pleasant place to vacation.
There is only one problem about Canmore... It's
hard to leave! There are so many things to see and do that you really
don't know where to begin. You want to make sure you plan ahead
to reserve some time to explore the endless outdoor pursuits such
as hiking, biking, sightseeing, rafting and horseback riding in
the warmer months and alpine skiing, nordic skiing, snowboarding,
heli-skiing, dogsledding, and horse-drawn carriage excursions in
the winter months. All this and much more!
Of course, you can'tt go to Canmore without experiencing
some fine cuisine, a beer on one of the many restaurants' patios
downtown or a nice dip in a jacuzzi at one of the many resorts,
chalets, cottages, hotels, motels or B&Bs. All of this, surrounded
by beautiful mountain scenery, is a true recipe for a good time!
I could go on and on about the feeling you get plowing
through the endless powder at one of the 5 world-class ski resorts
around Canmore or the screaming sense of exhilaration as your raft
jumps into the icy glacier waters while on a white-water rafting
trip, but these adventures, as so many more, are best left for you
to experience them yourself. And as for Canmore, the best kept secret
of the Canadian rockies, it is cheaper and definitely less touristy
than Banff, without leaving anything to be desired. All the amenities
you need, all the charm you can dream of, and all this, year round.
You could spend many years trying to find the place to go not just
once, but on a regular basis, and feel at home while vacationing.
Look no more! Crisp, clear, adventurous and beautiful Canmore...
the pearl of the Canadian Rockies is waiting for you to explore
it.
