Experience the MORE in Canmore?
Do you enjoy quiet hikes that begin right from your accommodations or experiencing dozens of unique events and festivals like the Heritage folk festival or the Highland games? Fact is, Canmore boasts unlimited winter and summer activities and a large inventory of attractions to be enjoyed year round, all of which can be undertaken in the care of a professional guide.
With a surprising world of dining enjoyment, top notch accommodations, famous golf courses and loads of shops along main street, you would think Canmore would have the busy, city-feel, right? Nope. Despite it’s wealth of amenities that cator to visitors and locals alike, the small-town feel remains. |

No longer is Canmore just a little town that visitors of the Rocky Mountains just pass by on their way to Banff without giving much thought. The enviable geographic emplacement of Canmore welcomes several millions of tourists from every corner of the planet year round. Sitting at the cross-roads with Kananaskis Country to the south and Banff National Park to the west, it is no wonder that in 2001, Harrowsmith Country Life Magazine ranked it as one of the "Top Ten prettiest Small Towns in Canada".
Wildlife
Have you ever observed the slow, natural movement of a moose having lunch in a little swamp? Or mountain sheep gripping with all their mite to the rugged rocks of the mountain on their descent down to the luscious greens? Well, this kind of sightseeing really makes you stop and get back to nature. And what a better place to catch a glimpse of these mammals than the beautiful areas around Canmore. (You might even see the occasional wildlife in town. We certainly have a couple of times!)
Comprised of miles and miles of wildland and home to a number of wild animals like:
- moose,
- elk,
- whitetailed and mule deer,
- big horn sheep and mountain goats,
- cougars,
- black and grizzly bears,
- and of course the beaver,
The Canadian Rockies of Canmore are a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Just don’t get too close, they are wild and very unpredictable! Also, please refrain from feeding them, a meal of Doritos and jelly beans is NOT considered a natural diet.

Imagine thousands of Eagles migrating right over Canmore and the Bow Valley's skies. Yes, there is a festival of the Eagles every October, another great reason to visit.
The Canmore Advantage
It’s 7pm in August and the sun is just starting to descend behind the Nordic Center and the Three Sisters Mountain's outline gets a glorious glow. Not a care in the world as to their attire or campfire smell, visitors easily adopt this relaxed way of life around Canmore. Whether it be hiking boots, polar fleeses or a tank top and shorts, their apparel tells a story of the day’s adventures mountain biking, whitewater rafting, a day at the spa or maybe even competing in a biathlon. Some are even carrying their inflatable boats around town!
Canmore is more tranquil than Banff and being one of the oldest villages in the area, it’s unique history alone will be remembered by you for years to come. With Kananaskis Country to the south, World-Class ski resorts a short drive away and shuttle busses to Canmore departing daily from Calgary International Airport, (60 minutes away), the Southern hemisphere quality to the pace of living will keep drawing you back to this Rocky mountain vacation over and over again.
